Two Jews Three Opinions, Three Jews Democrat Primary

The 2020 Democrat primary is unique for several reasons, but one underreported novelty is the fact that three Jews are running in it  (there was a fourth before she dropped out, Marianne Williamson). In no way is this an anti-Semitic article detailing a Jewish conspiracy. It is simply an acknowledgement of a little recognized coincidence this political season.

Jews have not been more publicly represented in American politics, since Joe Lieberman was Al Gore's running mate during the presidential election of 2000. Unfortunately, nominally religious American Jews tend to be politically liberal and support the Democrat party. However, the more religiously orthodox Jewish community trends more politically conservative, but those in that community are not typically politically involved in a public format. So, this season, there are three nominal Jews vying for the Democrat party's support to run for president.

Crazy Smurf

Socialist Bernie Sanders is so extremely left-wing, even the standard bearers of liberalism, the media, have taken out the knives on him. Chris Matthews of MSNBC fame has likened the rise of Bernie Sanders to the Nazi invasion of France during WWII, and the media muppet James Carville has referred to Sanders' following as a cult. Bernie Sanders has promised "free" healthcare, and he has been a Fidel Castro apologist, but he seems to be running away with the nomination to become the Democrat party's choice to run against president Trump later this year.

Confused Smurf

Michael Bloomberg could not figure out if he was a Republican or Independent, so he just decided to be part of the insane party, the Democrat party. To add insult to injury, Bloomberg's national introduction during his performance at the 2020 Democrat primary debate in Nevada has been etched into every living historians' and political pundits' memories. He was a deer-in-headlights repeatedly responding "eebedee, eebedee, eebedee, that's all folks". His billion-dollar political war chest has yet to salvage his campaign.

Climate Smurf

There is not much to say about Tom Steyer other than he is an environmentalist hack, who is known to few others than political junkies. However, like Bloomberg, Steyer is a billionaire, who has thrown around his wealth, in a vain attempt to stay relevant during this political season. Steyer's political obituary will likely be written shortly after South Carolina's primary or within a few days after Super Tuesday.

Hopefully, there will be a conservative Jewish politician in the near future, who will better represent the influential and growing American-Jewish demographic and voting bloc. For now, Jew or gentile, I do not believe any Democrat contender will be able to defeat president Trump. The real competition will be among the down-ballot races.
