Federalism is a system of government, which consists of two parallel governing bodies: central and regional. The United States did not invent the idea of federalism, but James Madison’s exposition of it in “Federalist No. 39” is perhaps the most thorough and articulate explanation. This is what is commonly referred to as “Judeo-Christian” values, because those of the Jewish and Christian faiths share a textual authority for their moral laws, even if they disagree theologically.

Perhaps, no other philosophy is more associated with conservatism than Natural Law. The late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, a lion of conservatism, was criticized by his liberal opponents for subscribing to a Natural Law jurisprudence. Much like conservatism, Natural Law, is criticized for being outdated, archaic, inapplicable to our contemporary times.

Biblical precedent refers to the Bible’s historical authority for establishing societal laws. The Bible contains a code of ethics prescribed initially to the ancient Israelites in the Hebrew Scriptures and later reinforced in the New Testament.
